I lived nearly sixty years before being involved in a serious auto accident. Then, about a month ago, I was t-boned by a Ford 150 while driving my nearly new 2010 Infinity G37. My car was totalled and my back was injured.

Here's the thing--I never saw it coming.

I was crossing MoPac on 35th Street in Austin, Texas. I was in the left hand lane headed east, anticipating a left turn on the far side of the bridge. As I drew even with the ramp that exits off of MoPac onto the street, I was briefly aware of something black and ominous off to my right. The truck struck me on the passenger's side, bounced me off the median strip, and spun me around two and half times. I ended up in my own lane facing the wrong direction. As I was spinning, and in the seconds just after I came to rest, at least one other car drove past in the right hand lane. The Ford pick-up that plowed into my passenger's side continued over the median strip, across two lanes of oncoming traffic, and crashed into the bridge work on the far side of the road. The young woman driving the truck had been going too fast on the ramp, misjudged the traffic pattern, and lost control. She was probably traveling 40-45 miles per hour when she t-boned me.
