IGARD -- A Tigard police patrol car was rear-ended early this morning, wrecking the car and sending the police officer to the hospital for observation.
The officer, Michael Powers, reported no apparent injuries, said Jim Wolfe, Tigard police spokesman.
"But the patrol car is a different story," Wolfe said. "It's totaled."

Wolfe said Powers, 25, a two-year officer, was pulling onto the shoulder of Oregon 217 south at the off-ramp to Interstate 5 south around 1:20 a.m., when he was struck from behind.

The driver of the other vehicle, Joseph Frank Witt, 43, of Beaverton also reported no injuries in the crash.
No citations were issued. However, Wolfe said the accident remained under investigation.
